Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to frequently asked questions about wedding photography services, shooting style, and gear.

Here are some common questions and answers to make it easier for you.

How long have you been into photography? shooting digital?

I’ve been photographing since my son was born which was back in 2002.

What is your shooting style?

Half candid journalistic and half creative, in addition to artistic portraits. I also shoot posed photographs because I feel those are very important, too. That adds a nice stability to your wedding collection.

Are you a part of any professional organizations?

Yes, I am an active member of Nikon Professional Services {NPS}. Based on my experience, talent, integrity, professionalism and peer references, I am proud to be a part of Wedding & Portrait Photographers International {WPPI} and Best of Wedding Photography {BOWP}, a premier, invitation-only directory of top wedding photographers.

What advice would you give a bride who is looking for a wedding photographer?

Make sure you like what you see first and most importantly, make sure you connect with the photographer. Look for versatility in their photography; be certain they are able to make a simple location look extraordinary through their use of light, composition, and the way they can help bring out your emotion. Also, ask for references and read reviews about the photographer. Anyone can have a good set of photos, but it is important that they are consistent throughout their work. Do not be afraid to ask to see some albums with complete weddings.

How has your experience in wedding photography helped you in difficult situations on a wedding day?

Knowing how to use your camera and being able to work with any lighting situation at any particular location are very important when it comes to dealing with unexpected situations. If you are having a bad weather day, for example, where an outdoor ceremony is moved indoors and you still manage to come up with amazing images, that is where experience comes in.

What’s your favorite part of the wedding day to photograph?

Bride and Groom together time. That is when we can get work done and make magic happen.

What kinds of weddings do you love to photograph?

I love all kinds of weddings. I believe that each wedding is unique and has its own magic. I also love to travel and shoot lots of Destination Weddings.

What are your top tips for brides to help them get great photos?

I like the First Look. Give yourself more time to get photographed so you are not under pressure. Remember, you hired people to do the work so let them do it; sit back and relax, it is your day.

What do you do to ensure a wedding will go smoothly?

I make sure that the time line is good and that there is enough time between each part of the wedding. I make sure all of the addresses, names and any special or important photos that are needed to be taken on the wedding day are all known to me.

How important is it to hire an experienced wedding photographer?

I am sure you have heard this before, but you get what you pay for. Less experienced photographers often do not know the importance of good business practices, having back-up camera gear, shooting your wedding with 5-6 memory cards, good insurance and knowing what to do when something goes wrong with your gear. Without these things, it is just a matter of time when something will go wrong.

Do you offer albums?

Yes I do. I use Graphistudio and Epoca Albums. Albums are a very important part of the wedding day and the quality is VERY important to me so I use the best in the industry.

Do you shoot in color or black and white?

I photograph your wedding in color and then later I will change the images I think and feel that will look better in B/W.

Can we give you a shot list?

Yes, yes, yes, I would love that. Please let me know of any special photos that you would like, any people that you want, to make sure that they are in your images. I know what photographs I have to take, but please let me know of anything else you would like and I would be more than happy to make sure we capture it.

How long will family photos take?

For formal family photos, I would like to spend no longer than 20-25 minutes right after the ceremony if possible. I am very flexible and have no problem changing things around if you need.

Do you have a limit on the number of photos you take?

No. I bring several memory cards with me to make sure we capture thousands of images. My goal is to make sure it will be hard for you guys to pick favorites.

How long before we see the photos?

I will send a link out 2-3 weeks after your wedding day. Then you will pick your favorites so I can edit them for you.

Will our final images be watermarked?

No.

Can you photograph in different lighting?

Yes. I bring many lights with me to make sure we get different lights. I love working with off camera flash that work with wireless transmitters.

What kind of cameras do you use?

I use Nikon cameras. Nikon D4, Nikon D800 and Nikon D700, plus prime lenses: Nikon 28-70mm 2.8, Nikon 70-200mm 2.8, Nikon 50mm 1.4 and Nikon 85mm 1.8.

Do you bring back-up gear?

Certainly. I have two of every gear I carry in my bag. My second shooter does as well.

Do you own a Wedding Photography Studio?

Certainly. I have a local Wedding Studio where I can meet with clients. I also use the Studio for Newborn, Kids, Family, Corporate and executive photo shoots.

Do you only photograph in San Diego?

No, I love to travel and photograph anywhere in the country and throughout the world.

Do you shoot the entire wedding?

Yes, I will be the photographer at your wedding in addition to my second shooter.
