Barat Tradition Wedding
The Barat is one of the most fun-filled traditions in the entire wedding ceremony. It is the procession proceeding from the house or quarters of the groom toward the wedding venue, attended by relatives and friends from the groom’s side. The groom is seated on a decorated horse or an elephant to reach the venue, elegantly dressed for the occasion.
The groom wears a turban with a sehra (a flower veil over his face) and a garland. Before departure for the venue, a tilak is applied to his forehead by relatives, and sweetened grain is offered to the horse or elephant. The procession rejoices with music and dancing as they proceed to the marriage spot where the bride’s family awaits.

On arrival, the followers of the Barat are greeted by the bride's family. The mother of the bride applies a tilak on the groom’s forehead and performs an aarti. Afterwards, the groom proceeds to the Jaimala for the exchange of garlands with the bride.
